Fountains in Rome
You will be happy to know that Rome has more public water fountains than any other city in the world and drinking the water is delicious and safe.
The water free flows out through the fontanelle (little fountains) placed all over the city.
These fountains are called "nasoni", big noses, for their nose shaped spigots and are round and stout, made of cast iron, and stand about three feet tall.
The fountains are everywhere so all you need is an empty bottle: there is no reason to buy bottled water, just stop off at the fountain, instead. The trick is the one of drinking out of the fountains is to put your finger in the end so the water shoots out of the hole on top, like a regular drinking fountain. Delicious, safe, and cool!
